Dronfield, St John the Baptist

Dronfield, St John the Baptist

The grade I listed Church of St John the Baptist Dronfield has stood at the centre of this community since the 12th Century. Built in the gothic style, it has been enlarged over the years including a large chancel with ancient carved choir stalls.  The trefoil, or three-leafed, openings at the upper level were added when the church was renewed in 1855.  There is also an unusual two storey vestry, the upper floor of which would probably have been for the use of the deacon.
