Alvaston, St Michael & All Angels

Alvaston, St Michael & All Angels

Welcome to St Michael and All Angels, historic meeting place of Alvaston Parish church. This has been a recognised site of public worship since 1257. The current building has stood with a number of amendments since 1856. When the church was rebuilt in 1856 Lord Harrington of Elvaston requested that the tower be sixty feet, so that he could see it from Elvaston Castle to the east of the church. At the base of the tower is a doorway leading via a spiral stairway to the bell tower which houses 6 bells from the foundry of Messrs. Taylor and Co., Loughborough, and a chiming clock. Our team of enthusiastic ringers, are popular for church services and weddings, and can be heard practicing on Monday evenings.

We hope you can enjoy visiting us, history leaflets are available on the welcome table.
